Gold-filled jewellery is a less expensive yet excellent option to 14 karat gold jewellery. A thick layer of gold is bonded to a base metal such as sterling silver or rhodium. As the entire outer layer of gold-filled jewellery is layered with 14 karat gold, the appearance is identical to a 14K gold piece but at a fraction of the cost. To be labelled as gold-filled, the gold content must be at least 1/20th the weight of the total piece.
Avoid contact with perfume, hair sprays, chlorine, seawater, lotions and detergents as they may contain bleaches and unknown chemicals.
Simply remove any accumulation of dirt, perspiration, chlorine, etc by wiping it regularly with a soft cloth and a little bit of warm water.
Just with your other jewellery, storing your gold-filled jewellery in a sturdy case with soft, lined interiors will avoid impact against hard surfaces and scratching. If a jewellery box is unavailable, place jewellery in soft fabric pouches. Storing your jewellery separately will avoid tangles and scratches.
